Artist’s Statement
Images of the Mind is the title I have given to my imaginary landscapes where shapes overlap, objects ebb and flow and an ambiguous spatial order is created. Intense color combinations are critical to the development of the surface. The visual dynamic draws the viewer into the composition while the pictorial references allow the viewers to interpret their own story. I use the concepts of automatic drawing, surrealism and abstract expressionism.  Although I develop my ideas in a sketchbook, my process is still interactive. As I paint and draw I respond to what happens on the surface. I paint with opaque acrylic and work on top of the paint with pastel or pen to create added dimensionality.

Affiliations
I work in both Chicago Illinois and Boca Raton, Florida. In Chicago I am represented in the Curly Tale Gallery and show with the Chicago Society of Art. In Florida I exhibit regularly with the National Association of Women Artists, FL Chapter (NAWA), Boca Raton Museum Artist Guild, Florida Artist Group (FLAG) and in competitive national shows.

Arts Educator
Professionally, I created educational materials in the arts at CEMREL, Inc. a national research and development laboratory, and directed an NEA Artist-In-Residence program. As Associate Professor at Chicago State University, I taught visual art, and I managed the activities of the Illinois Alliance of Arts Education a statewide arts education advocacy organization.

Education
I received my under graduate degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and post graduate degrees at the University of Illinois, Champaign, and Michigan State University, East Lansing.
