Dick Bobnick is a nationally and internationally published illustrator and portrait artist. Short essay:I am a traditional realist illustrator and portrait artist. I believe all good paintings begin with a great drawing and all the technique in the world will not make a bad drawing great. Technique is just frosting on the cake. To prospective illustrators my best advice is learn your anatomy and practice, practice, practice. I attempt to get the "look" of the celebrities I paint, the look most people think of when a famous name comes up. My pinups are idealized in face and form in keeping with the legendary pin up artists of the past such as Gil Elvgren and Alberto Vargas. I am keeping that traditional approach to illustration alive in my own particular way as a statement for the classic approach in an ever growing digital and computerized world.
